Angels was established during 2008 in response to Leeds City Council withdrawing from some care provision. There were just three of us then (mops and buckets in hand!) but we are now a team of over 40 strong and cover the whole of Leeds. We originally launched domestic services including cleaning, laundry and shopping and added care services in early 2012.
We are a social enterprise (and have the mark to prove it!) which means that we work for the benefit of our customers and community rather than for financial profit. We believe quality care can only be delivered in a socially enterprising way because social impact rather than finance is our most important bottom line. We make sure we can afford to provide services tailored to the needs of our customers, that we pay our staff well and make sure they have access to the best possible training, support and, crucially, that they have the time to deliver a quality service.
We use all the surplus income from our cleaning and care services to provide advice, information and wide range of support services to all of our customers. Included within all of our services, we do a full initial assessment and encourage all of our customers, their families and friends to use Angels as a one-stop-shop for advice and information.
This is a free service to our customers and includes help with the following:
Benefits claims, particularly Attendance Allowance
Smoke alarms
Key safes
Social services support
Falls prevention and occupational health assessments
Care Ring / Telecare, energy efficiency advice
Community groups and leisure activities
Meal delivery – hot and frozen
Gardening and help finding trustworthy tradesmen
The list is not exhaustive and our track record is impressive. For example we helped our customers claim over £100,000 in Attendance Allowance in just 1 year!
We have had a lot of support along the way. The Leeds City Council Keeping House Project has helped us from day one and the Leeds Directory has been unerring in their support.
